2021 NSWG 37 Submersible Smart Tow Cable

The Navy’s Submersible is a new small submersible operated by a crew of 2 and capable of transporting 8 additional passengers. During missions, the sub may be towed by other craft. A means to provide electric power, data, and voice communication is desired while the sub is under tow. A “smart” cable concept is envisioned that will provide these utilities while handling the tension required to tow the vehicle. Means to attach and detach the tow may be remotely actuated. A working prototype and demonstrations are desired.
