2019 USD(R&E) 19 Instrumented Combat Boot
The government is interested in the development of poly-axial strain gauge boots with sole-based, lateral, anterior-posterior, cephalad-caudal gauges built into boots. Cases of overuse injuries, carried loads, and axial-loading events (eg. Jump landings, IED-beneath-vehicle, etc.) are both a human-performance-impacting issue as well as a potential big data-source for commanders. Similar to gait analysis, theoretic determinations of Fire-Team-level to Battalion-level health/functioning/activity could be ascertained from the collective data of all boots.
